Breed History: The three foundation sires, The godolphin arabian, the darley arabian and the byerley turk were shipped to England. By the end of the 18th century, they had established the classic english races. Included was the st. legar stakes in 1776, then the epsom oaks in 1779, and then the epsom derby in 1780. Later on they came up with two more, the 1,200 guineas and the 1,000 guineas. The oaks and 1,000 guineas were restricted just fillies. The first thoroughbred horse in the american colonies was bulle rock, imported in 1730. Then as their popularity grew, some were sent to France in 1817 and 1818, though the sport of horse-racing didn't prosper in France. *This has not been copy n' pasted from Wikipedia, most is actually based off a book, my head. Well the history, I looked at wikipedia for the base but I typed it in my own words and paraphrased.*
